#MyPropertyStory: Cherished Possessions
As today marks the final day of this year’s #MyPropertyStory campaign, which began on April 24- Yom HaShoah, WJRO is proud to feature a moving story from our ongoing partnership with 80 Objects/80 Lives, a digital exhibition that brings to life the personal belongings of Holocaust survivors and refugees. These artifacts—carried, saved, or lost—serve as lasting connections to history and remembrance.
One such treasure is an autograph book belonging to Gertrude (Trude) Silman, Hebrew name Esther, who was born in 1929 in Bratislava, Czechoslovakia. Given to her in 1938, the book contains heartfelt inscriptions and drawings from friends and family, including a delicate illustration of flowers accompanied by a short poem—one written in Slovak and another in German.
Dated early 1938–1939, this small book is a cherished reminder of her childhood, her loved ones, and a world that was soon to change forever.
Join us in commemorating these treasures and the stories they tell by sharing your own family’s story. Learn more and share your story at wjro.org.il/mypropertystory
