#MyPropertyStory: Cherished Possessions

John Hajdu

As part of this year’s #MyPropertyStory campaign, WJRO is proud to partner with 80 Objects/80 Lives, a digital exhibition that brings to life the personal belongings of Holocaust survivors and refugees. These artifacts—carried, saved, or lost—serve as lasting connections to history and remembrance.

One such treasure is a small teddy bear that has been with John Hajdu since he was three years old. Born in Budapest, Hungary, in April 1937 to a well-to-do middle-class family, John managed to keep the teddy bear with him throughout the war, carrying it in his pocket. Though he doesn’t know exactly how it survived, it remained by his side through every challenge. Today, it sits on his desk and accompanies him whenever he speaks to schoolchildren about his experiences. More than just a toy, it is a precious part of his family and his history.

Join us in commemorating these treasures and the stories they tell by sharing your own family’s story. Learn more and share your story at wjro.org.il/mypropertystory
