#MyPropertyStory: Cherished Possessions
As part of this year’s #MyPropertyStory campaign, WJRO is proud to partner with 80 Objects/80 Lives, a digital exhibition that brings to life the personal belongings of Holocaust survivors and refugees. These artifacts—carried, saved, or lost—serve as lasting connections to history and remembrance.
One such treasure is an autograph book belonging to Lady Milena Grenfell-Baines, who was born in Prague in 1929. On the night she left Czechoslovakia on a Kindertransport, her grandfather gave her this small book as a parting gift.
Before she boarded the train, he inscribed a message inside: “Be faithful to the country that you are leaving, to your parents, and to your grandfather who loves you very much. Prague, July 31, 1939. 9 o’clock in the evening.”
This simple but heartfelt gift became one of Milena’s most treasured possessions, carrying with it the love of her family and the memories of a life forever changed by war.
Join us in commemorating these treasures and the stories they tell by sharing your own family’s story. Learn more and share your story at wjro.org.il/mypropertystory
