Rabbi Jeff Wohlgelernter from San Diego, California speaks about a trip he made with members from his shul to find their Polish roots and connect to their history.  During the trip, their Polish guide finds the farm where an orthodox Jew, Chaim Yitzchok Wolgelernter, was in hiding during the Holocaust. Although he did not survive the Holocaust – he was brutally murdered two months before liberation – his diary made its way to North America, where it laid in a drawer, untouched, for many years.  Seventy years after his death – on  behest of his grandson – his book, The Unfinished Diary: A Chronicle of Tears, was published. The profound experience of going back to the farm and also visiting the field across from the farm where Chaima and members of his family were buried, provided meaningful emotional connections to all on the trip.  As Rabbi Wohlgelernter declared “We [the Jews} still go on!”
