The Feuerwerks were an Austrian Jewish family who owned a factory in Bucharest, Romania at Sosua Colentina 82. In 1938 the family fled Vienna shortly before the annexation of Austria by Germany on March 12th, 1938 to Romania. They manufactured door locks, padlocks, and curtain rods. In 1940 the family managed to flee a second time on the deck of an old tramp ship to the British Mandate of Palestine. The factory was expropriated by the Communists in 1948. Subsequently, it was razed in the 1970s and the land  is now part of a parking lot of a shopping mall. Romania requires proof of nationalization with the owners name on the document. The family has evidence of ownership up to 1941 and a document from the 1970s that the property was expropriated by the Communists, but the name of the owner is missing. Other necessary Title / ownership / expropriation documents are mysteriously missing from the records of the City of Bucharest. About 30% of claimants in Romania are in a similar situation. A lawsuit was filed against the Municipality of Bucharest because they refused to respond to our claim. The Court ordered them to respond and fined them $65 a day until they responded. Only after this did they rapidly respond. The response was negative citing insufficient proof of ownership. Promises of justice and compensation made by Romania to the European Union and the WJRO have not been kept. Injustice seems to be permanent.
