Submitted by: F.C. Hardy: My grandparents and my mother left Vienna for London in 1938. My grandmother had been Tennis Champion of Austria and my grandfather was President of Hakoah Vienna, which at the time was Europe’s largest sports club. He also left behind his textiles business, with offices and factories in Vienna and Berlin. My great-grandmother was murdered at Theresienstadt, having first been forced to leave her family house and adjoining distillery at Jägerndorf in Moravia (now called Krnov).
